The Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR) at the HKBU School of Communication hosted a Faculty Forum featuring Associate Dean and Professor Kara Chan. Professor Chan presented her research on the motivations and challenges of industry partners participating in work-integrated learning.
The forum, "Motivations and Challenges in Participating in Work-integrated Learning: The Industry Partner Perspectives," explored the factors that encourage and hinder companies from engaging in WIL programs. Based on interviews with 15 current and potential industry partners, Professor Chan's research examined the key motivations for partnership, including talent acquisition, social responsibility, reputation enhancement, and corporate learning opportunities. The research also highlighted the importance of institutional reputation, existing partnerships, commitment levels, and perceived contribution potential.
Professor Chan also discussed challenges such as employee turnover within partner organizations and communication effectiveness between partners and educational institutions. She concluded her presentation by offering recommendations to enhance vocational education programs' ability to initiate, maintain, and strengthen industry engagement.
