International experts on growing areas such as the metaverse, web 3.0, NFT as media, electronic sports and students from around the world took part in the first edition of the International Summer Camp hosted by the Department of Communication Studies at the end of July 2022. The event was co-organised by PRHK and HK 4As.
Over four days, this one-of-a-kind inter-university online event served as a platform for local and international students to collaborate on strategic communication campaigns and learn the best practices in exciting new areas. The plenary talks delivered by Dr JC Ko and Dr Xinzhi Zhang have showcased the opportunities and the challenges offered by strategic communication practices in the metaverse and NFT, and the effectiveness of computational digital media and data mining in effective communication and storytelling. The international speakers also joined four parallel sessions organised around metaverse and NFTs, trust in communication campaigns, the role of KOLs in the new digital environment, and the latest practices in e-sports and gaming.
More than 30 students from places such as Australia, China, Germany, Israel, Hong Kong SAR, the Netherlands, and Turkey worked in groups to create strategic communication campaigns. Highlighting their creativity and the knowledge accumulated during the plenary talks and the parallel sessions, the students had 48 hours to work on a client brief and develop a strategic communication solution. The winning teams received prizes of up to USD 1,000.
