COMS students developed and delivered an AI-powered communication training workshop for foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, marking the first university-led initiative to enhance AI competence among Filipino domestic workers in the city.

Dr. Henry Fung, in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, organized a groundbreaking workshop supported by the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning. The initiative brought together 60 foreign domestic workers and 35 student trainers from the PRAO3076 Communication Training for Organizations course.

The student-led training sessions addressed five essential areas of communication and interpersonal skills: cultural differences between the Philippines and Hong Kong; basic Cantonese and everyday communication; building and maintaining positive employer relationships; mental wellness and resilience; and conflict management and navigating difficult conversations.

The program aims to bridge communication gaps, promote mutual understanding, and empower domestic workers with practical AI tools to navigate their personal and professional lives more effectively.

Vice Consul Mr. Angelo Manuel attended the event and expressed strong support for the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of fostering cultural understanding and communication competence among Hong Kong's foreign domestic worker community.
