Dr. Dandan Wang, a PhD student supervised by COMS Associate Professor Stephanie Jean Tsang, has been recognized as a 2025/26 awardee of the Junior Research Fellow Scheme by the Research Grants Council. The award was presented at the 2025 Award Presentation Ceremony.

Dr. Wang's research project examines how rumours propagate and why online communities become increasingly fragmented, addressing critical questions in digital communication research. The study focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind information spread and community polarization in online environments.

The Junior Research Fellow Scheme is a competitive program that supports outstanding early-career researchers to undertake two years of postdoctoral research at University Grants Committee-funded universities. The scheme aims to broaden Hong Kong's research talent pipeline and advance research and development across various academic disciplines.

The recognition highlights the quality of research supervision and academic mentorship within the Department of Communication Studies. Dr. Wang's achievement demonstrates the department's commitment to fostering emerging scholars who address contemporary challenges in communication and digital media research.
