Dr Angela Mak won the first-place award in the Teaching Paper competition organised by the Public Relations Division of AEJMC. The paper "Role-Play-Based Gamification in the Use of Guest Speakers: A Disney-inspired Approach for Student Learning" was lauded for its innovative pedagogical approach to using guest speakers in public relations education.
In the awarded paper, an assessment model included evaluating the guest sharing talk, Disney-inspired role-play gamification learning, impact on learning, and cognitive and affective changes of public relations attributes in joining the industry. Survey results and textual analysis of student blog writing articles support the idea of student active learning.
In the 2023-24 academic year, PRAD4045 Advanced Public Relations Writing students led by Dr. Angela Mak organised the first-ever "World of Frozen" sharing event on campus. HKBU and the Hong Kong Public Relations Professionals' Association Limited (HKPRPA) collaborated to host the event, where the Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) Communications and Public Affairs team made a special appearance on our campus.
